Pityriasis rosea remedies

Pityriasis rosea is a skin disease characterized by red spots and itching. Its etiology is not very well known and it doesn't especially need treatment. Even if it is not treated properly, the rash will disappear after 5-8 weeks, leaving no scars or other signs.

The main disturbing symptom, the itching, can be easily palliated with steroid creams. A very efficient example is hydrocortisone and its commercial products. Only if the external treatment does not work, the doctor can prescribe you drugs based on antihistamines. The itching won't actually disappear, but it will be considerably reduced. Another way of decreasing this sensation is applying on the affected parts lotions with menthol.

During this period, it is highly recommended to avoid taking showers or baths with hot water and also to use oatmeal that has a benefic effect for your skin. If Pityriasis rosea appears during the summer, the patient might consider taking sunbaths, but not for a long period. In other cases, UVB light can substitute the natural sunlight. The medication, the creams and the exposure to light are useful when talking about a typical form of Pityriasis rosea. They will diminish all the symptoms during the treatment, but if they don't prove useful or if you experiment any unusual side effect, you should consult a doctor in order to avoid further complications.
