Pityriasis rosea and pregnancyPityriasis rosea is mainly a self-limited illness characterized by some eruptions, itching or rash on the surface of the arms, chest and back. The etiology is not very well known but it is supposed to be a viral infection. The good part is that the disease disappears in 6-8 weeks leaving no scars or other damages. It affects mainly young persons and it can highly be a problem if it occurs during pregnancy. The infection, like any other, can also spread to the baby. The effects on a so small human being can be fatal, leading to miscarriage in some cases. The miscarriage is more possible to occur in the early stages of pregnancy. If the disease appears between the 16 and the 20 weeks of the fetus development, the infant might present in the first months of life weaked motion and hypotonia. In some other cases, the baby might be born premature. Studies revealed that a percent of 33% of the babies were healthy from the beginning. On the other hand, miscarriages happen in women with serious cases of Pityriasis rosea, but if the patient is pregnant is highly recommended to be treated properly and to avoid complications, in order to affect the less possible the baby. |
