Pityriasis rosea and herpes

Most people do not have even the slightest idea that there is a very close connection between pityriasis rosea and herpes. Now, that does not mean that anytime a patient presents with herpes, pityriasis rosea is coming soon. No, nothing like that. The connection between pityriasis rosea and herpes is related to their causes.

See, there are many types of herpes viruses out there, from the one that causes the most common type of herpes (the oral herpes) to the one that is considered to be the pathogen agent for rarer forms of herpes (genital herpes). It is believed that one of these viruses is the cause behind pityriasis rosea.

So far, nobody has managed to establish a direct connection between pityriasis rosea and herpes, but the research is ongoing. Recent tests have shown that genital herpes responds to the same medication as pityriasis rosea. Well, up to a point, at least. Nowadays, it is considered that pityriasis rosea is a less serious, but larger form of the classic herpes. Unlike herpes, the mode of transmission of pityriasis rosea is still a complete unknown. However, it has been postulated that the virus that causes this skin disease could be airborne. Thus, it is best to isolate the sufferer from the rest of the healthy people around him or her.
